Happy back to school! We are about to embark on a exciting new journey where transition and colors feed our soul or are we? I have noticed on facebook lately that everyone seems to be going through a crisis. Everywhere around me things seem to be spinning out of control. I find this happens every September, this transition from summer to fall takes a tole on people. Why? I believe that anytime there is a lot of change people feel unstable. Change is uncomfortable and many of us avoid it at all costs. As many have taken vacation and come back to a full email box and workload we find ourselves overwhelmed and unable to cope. We are out of our routine with food, sleep, work and it builds on us. If we are unable to let that go and ease our transition back into things then parts of our life begin to get out of hand. The more we hold on and try to control our situations the worse they get. So how do we then ease into transition? Things that help me with transitions:

1) Make a list of things you need to do and cross them off when you do them: This will help you get organized and feel accomplished when you get things done and cross them off your list.
2) Go to bed early and get sleep: Sleep will help you keep a strong mind and body.
3) Exercise: Walk, jog, yoga, gym: Keep the body moving will help you from falling into a depression. Exercise keeps the blood moving and your body going.
4) Be mindful: Be mindful of how you feel. Acknowledge that this is a tough time. Allow yourself to feel your emotions then move on.
5) Have compassion for yourself: This is not an easy time. Be kind in your thoughts to yourself. You are doing the best you can.

Say the things you want to say. Write the things you want to write. If someone holds you down let them go…..

I was hurt by you a number of times. I am inspired wherever I go but I find it hard around your negative energy. Whether you realize it or not your tone, language and lack of expression towards me was clear. I felt I was in your way. I felt your kind words were forced and unreal. I feel hurt, sad and unwanted. I feel I cannot express this to you without you hurting me more so my heart needs to distance myself from you.

How do we add years to our lives? There are many myths and beauty products out there that claim that they can add years to your life and make you look and feel younger. This market is massive as the ego wants to survive and our culture seeks this marketed beauty and youth. The fact of the matter is that if you are living your highest self then chances are you will be adding quality years to your life. We begin to move and flow to where we are our highest self. In these spaces of higher self we begin to add life to our years.

Many people ask what is the difference between meditation and mindfulness. One of the main differences for me is that meditation takes me inside of myself where as mindfulness creates a present state of where I am. Meditation can be past, future or present it is about what you find when you go inside of yourself. The same principals apply for both mindfulness and meditation that we do not judge what we find. We bring a awareness to that space. We sit in that space. Lately I have been working with a gong meditation moving with sound into stillness. With this meditation, we follow the sound of the gong until the point of stillness. Each sound takes us deeper into ourselves. After we practice this for some time we will then be able to find any sound to take us into the point of stillness.

A tagline is a catchphrase or slogan, especially as used in advertising, or the punchline of a joke. Many people have a quote or a tagline that really speaks to them. When I met my husband 15 years ago one of the first things he said to me was “dream big or don’t dream at all”. This has been at the forefront of my visions. This tagline has helped me create the family of my dreams, my business and helps me dream even bigger then I ever imagined. What is your tagline? How has this quote inspired you in your life?

Have you ever met someone who is really happy all the time? These people do exist..my children like to refer to my sister Lauren as the happiest person they know. They often ask me “Why is aunt Lauren always so happy”? This is the reason; our family taught us to always see the bright side of things. Of course we do get upset, angry and hurt but after we allow ourselves to feel we find a positive lining. We often reflect on the experience and open ourselves up to what that experience has to teach us. This is not easy and takes a lot of practice and effort to always have a positive outlook but the gift from this is that you are living with life optimistically and with joy. Remember where there is a wall there is always a door.

GROWTH
Growth is an important part of our life. When we are young we grow at tremendous speeds physically and mentally. We are more malleable as we have less life experience to draw from and growth becomes part of this experience with little or no thought.
When we get older our growth in all areas begins to slow down and take a back seat to our routine life. Growth later in life requires a lot more change. Our brains have been molded by our previous experiences, routines and our environment and to grow we must push ourselves outside of our mold. Each time we step up to the challenge pushing outside of our comfort zone we begin to connect more with new life experiences and new connections in our brain. We create new pathways and eventually opening new areas in our brain.

Here is a list of ways we can all grow:
1) Learn a new skill- Join a community team and learn a new sport or game. Learning a new skill can slow the aging process as we begin to play again.
2) Learn a new language- Learning a new language has been shown to increase the size of the brain.
3) Have a child- This is a big one but wow, what we can learn from these beautiful souls will expand and open many new parts of our brain. We are forced to become selfless and put someone above ourselves.
4) Try a new food- As small as this may be if we do not have the time to devote to learning a new skill our language we can try a new food. Pushing the senses to try something different sends us out of our comfort zone.
5) Mindfulness- When we can become mindful in our life we become less reactive and more present and this helps us create more space in our brains for the things that are important.
6) Meditation- Having a meditation practice you will explore places that you have never been and this practice will open and expand your brain.

When you take risks you learn that there will be times when you succeed and there will be times when you fail, and both are equally important.”
– Ellen DeGeneres

No one wants to fail. In fact many of us will avoid failure at all costs. The pain, humiliation, shame that the ego feels with failure is undoubtedly one of the worst types of pain there is. If we don’t try how will we succeed.

What I have learned from failure;

1) We have a choice on how we react to our failure. We can choose to play victim and blame others and not see our weakness. When we take ownership for our failure we can see the areas we need to improve on. When we improve on these areas our success will be stronger.

2) We begin to plan and rebuild. When things breakdown we have a chance to rebuild them stronger and better.

3) We learn that failure is not so bad. We become resilient and we can achieve more success as we are not afraid to fail.

What are your accomplishments? Do you take pride in your accomplishments? What are your inner (soul) accomplishments?

If you can say any of the following you have made a great soul accomplishment;

“Today I thought deeply about things.”
“I saw something about myself that I didn’t want to face, but kept looking until I understood.”
“I forgave myself.”
“I lightened up about something.”
“I handled something a little better.”
“I chose the highest thought and shifted my attitude about an issue.”

This morning on a run/walk…since I hurt my back I am unable to run that far, I was listening to a podcast. By the way if you have no time like me but workout, these morning runs are all about a good podcast. Today’s subject matter was about collaboration with those that aline with your mission. Your mission defined; are your goals. When we look at collaborating we look for people with similar goals. Essence is defined as values, feeling and morals. We usually know right away if we want to work with someone based on their essence. We can find this out just by having a dialogue with another person. Do they share the same feelings about things? Do they have the same value systems? If they do not then usually the collaboration will not work. It order to collaborate together essence is number one then comes the form. The form is how the structure of the collaboration will look. If one is all about form and no essence then think again if you want to collaborate with this person. Structure with no values is a dangerous area to navigate.
