Discipline in our western world is associated with punishment and negative consequences. On many paths discipline is required to form a focused direction to the intention. Being disciplined is about staying focused in the work that you do. In spirituality and in yoga this means craving the time out of your day to create a practice. Self discipline is the driving force behind any achievement. The more self discipline you have the more you will achieve from your efforts.

Here are a few ways to practice self discipline:

  1. Start small. This way you do not have to commit to a large amount of time. Perhaps setting an intention each day or practicing gratitude each day.
  2. Pick an area of your wellness you enjoy. If we choose to be disciplined in an area we enjoy then we are more likely to practice it.
  3. Keep track. Write down what you did each day. Keeping track of your practice helps keep you accountable.

I have been continuing to go deeper in my self study and revisiting the Tattvas. Tattva (/ˈtʌtvə/) is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘thatness’, ‘principle’, ‘reality’ or ‘truth’. According to various Indian schools of philosophy, a tattva is an element or aspect of reality. Studying the Tattvas help us understand our surroundings and our reality on a subtle layer.  In the yoga sutras it states that first we need to see the gross, grosser, grossest layers of our reality then we can focus on the subtle.

Why with all of our spiritual traditions teaching unconditional love do we have so many conditions on love? Unconditional love by definition is love without conditions. No matter what someone has done we still love them. Conditional love on the other hand is ‘earned’ on the basis of conscious or unconscious conditions being met by the other person. Our society places a lot of conditions on how we should love. How can we work together to break this bondage of conditioned love?

Here are some practices to help you let go of conditions you may have on love.

  1. Notice when you do feel love. Like holding a baby or a pet. Give yourself permission to feel and be in the love with no conditions.
  2. Notice when you make judgements on others. These are conditions you place on them. Sit with your conditions and allow yourself to feel them. Then ask why do I have these conditions?
  3. Practice dropping into your heart each day by feeling gratitude. Start with a practice in the morning then 21 days later, add one at lunch, then 21 days later add one at bedtime. Eventually you will be begin to cultivate this vibration of gratitude all the time.

What is tantra? Tantra refers to a thread or web of energy. Tantra is a way to view life taking into account the body, mind and soul. Tantra is sort of a soul map to help you through this lifetime.

When I decided to move deeper into yoga 5 years ago I had read somewhere that a teacher was necessary. When I speak of a teacher I do not mean the western yoga teachers that have their 200hours although these teachers are needed to help people start  and develop a practice of yoga for sure. What I am talking about is someone who can take you deeper into the lineage of yoga. Someone that when you meditate with the time stops and that what you learn is beyond time and space. Someone with deep attained knowledge. From the day I decided that yoga was my path the intention was set. For many years I looked for a teacher that I could go deeper with. A few times I would stumble upon someone that would help deepen my insight but nothing seem to stick. I kept coming back to my own intuition and inner knowledge for guidance. I began to learn deeply from every person I met. I used what they brought out in me to learn new things about myself. They were a mirror of what was going on inside. I let go of finding that ONE teacher. Recently within in the past year I have been called once again to go deeper. To find a specific path and learn to be more disciplined in all the limbs of yoga. The path of Tantra yoga has been calling me for some time. Over a year ago I was given a book on Tantra Kriyas and Kundalini Awakening. This book gave me the answers I was looking for. It showed me when and why I would need a teacher. The Kriyas and meditations that were now in my hands needed more explanation then I felt I had inside. Once again I asked the universe to send me someone who could help. This time I asked with no expectation and no attachment.  I felt I could keep doing the work I was doing and when I was ready I would have the information I needed. It was in this act of self surrender I found Jayanta or white deer.

Finding your inner guru means to deepen your love and connection to your own self. To find the love in your dark and light sides and to embody that love. Transmute the dark into the light. This is the work. Putting in this practice means taking right action and moving with your intuition. Feeling your way along the path and surrendering to whatever comes up.

Over the past week I have been called to go deeper. Going to deeper levels of practice for me means more devotion, more surrender, more love to what comes up. Feeling the merging of my divine presence with that of the conscious world. My teacher has appeared and I have and feel more unconditional love then I have ever felt before.
